Charlie Eierle ; from Cadiz, Spain (2013-05-18 16:59:24) ***** (Highly Recommended) This was an incredibly enlightening experience, not only from the discovery of a new painting approach, but also a philosophy of the individuality and potential that the artist, as well as the work can achieve. Moreover, the endless discussions of artists, art history, varying painting techniques, and individual potential based upon individual goals were inspiring. Greg teaches more than a way of painting; he teaches a painting philosophy, which has opened an enrichingly new mindset that no other atelier has to date achieved. Of the many years that I have been mentored by some of the most notable names, none has served me as rich an understanding of art as Greg.
Victoria ; from Canada (2013-01-31 12:15:41) ***** (Highly Recommended) I attended the Atelier Neo Medici in the spring of 2012 for two months. I found it to be an extremely stimulating environment, in which I was able to significantly improve my technique. Gregory Pelizzari’s approach to teaching includes developing the student’s drawing skills and engaging them in the exploration of the technique-mixte. Having done my bachelors in Painting and Drawing at a contemporary arts university I was grateful to be able to take Gregory Pelizzari’s masters painting course. The university courses, which had been offered, did not focus enough on the attention to technique as it could have. Although concept is important, I feel it is also important for the student to also gain a deeper understanding and awareness to what brought art to becoming what it is today. The course offered by Gregory Pelizzari offers helps one to gain that perspective, and then be able to incorporate it into any direction they choose to take. Another added benefit, is that the participants are there as they are all interested in learning the technique and thus offer their insights when needed with constructive feedback, which greatly adds to the dynamic of the whole experience. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in developing their technique.
Cherie Gunton ; from Sydney Australia (2011-11-21 01:13:49) ***** (Highly Recommended) I attended the the Neo Medici School for a month in 2010 and was so impressed with Greg Pellizzari as a person and as a dedicated teacher I went to the 3 month summer workshop in 2011. Greg got me right back to basics with lots of drawing and then showed me the renaissance techniques of developing a painting. The light and shade layering techniques can then be applied in the creative development of classical or modern oil painting. The result is 3 dimensional depth and great luminosity and exceptional skin tones can be produced in portraiture. I read a mile of art and history books whilst staying at Greg's hillside studio and atelier (has a library)It is in the picturesque fort town of Monflanquin (one of the top10 most beautiful villages in France and very Tuscan looking) and during summer there always seemed to be something going on. I bought fresh produce at the local market and cooked in the atelier but ate at the local cafes too. I found my fellow students and locals very friendly even though my French was limited!. In conclusion, I got to visit Paris again, had a wonderful french countryside holiday and improved my art significantly. What more could I ask for? I will be returning. Also, thanks Greg for your superpatience and wonderful sense of humour.
Dana Olson ; from Chicago, IL, USA (2011-04-01 12:40:29) ***** (Highly Recommended) Four years at the American Academy of Art gave me the skill to draw and paint in a general way, but a three month workshop with Gregory Pelizzari changed everything. Artists these days are suffering from a lack of quality training and experience so they short cut the process of painting by jumping in and disregard the roots/process of painting. I am extremely fortunate to have had the tremendous honor of working with Greg who is one of the most talented and interesting artists around. Its rare to find an artist or teacher who possesses both passion and knowledge that go above and beyond the norm. I highly recommend this to any artist that wants to continue developing their artwork and mind.
Hector Manuel Hernandez ; from Illinois, USA (2011-03-17 10:57:59) ***** (Highly Recommended) I studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago for almost 3 years and then finished at a state school. Aside from a handful of good teachers at these two schools it was a waste and extremely overpriced. Now that i am a bit older i am convinced that the American structure and probably most of the worlds structures of teaching art are wasteful, overrated and expensive. They are stocked with mediocre teachers and have models set up that are aligned with making money more than actually educating people. I truly received my education from both Patrick Betaudier and Greg Pelizzari at Atelier Neo Medici. They gave me a deep understanding of the process of painting all the while encouraging intellectual growth.
